So, without further ado, here’s a list of common betting terms that all bettors should know:

Action

This means that the betting is soon to start on any specific event. Having action on a sports event means that you have placed a bet on the event.

Backdoor Cover

This is what happens when a team makes a sudden comeback to cover the spread that it’s supposed to achieve in order for the bet to be winning one. So, if your team trailed for a while in the match, but then it suddenly overcame the spread to win, that’s called a backdoor cover.

Bad Beat

This is what you call losing a bet that you were sure was a win. This rarely ever happens and is used to refer to an unexpected turn of events in a sports events. Usually when an underdog wins a match or somehow beats the odds set, that’s called a bad beat.

Cover

This is called the end result of a point-spread wager. For example; if you’re betting on a basketball game, then if the favorite team wins by more than the spread, it has said to have covered. If the underdog wins the match or loses by less than the spread then it is said to have covered.

Edge

This is a term used to refer to an advantage in betting. This is commonly used to refer to slot machine betting, where the house always has an edge and players try to get an edge over it with their strategies.
